2nd Annual Feast of Fields: Sunday August 22nd at 1pm
Burrowing Owl is a proud participant in the 2nd Annual Feast of Fields. Enjoy a 25 course meal with wine pairing at beautiful Brock Farms in Okanagan Falls. Take a walk through the picturesque landscape while sampling local products and supporting a not-for-profit organization, committed to food security projects in B.C since 1993. Feast of Fields provides an opportunity for participants to learn about sustainable food practices and witness the important connections necessary to create awareness and appreciation for local products and agriculture. Proceeds from Feast of Fields benefit the provincial work of FarmFolkCityFolk. Last year FarmFolkCityFolk earmarked $5000 of the proceeds to go to the BC Seeds Project.

There were serious runners finishing with serious race times, but for most, it was a chance to dress up in a crazy costume, sample wine and gourmet food at the various wineries en route and to drink in the breathtaking scenery along the race course. Jack Wessel’s course took runners through Oliver Twist, Stoneboat, Tinhorn’s Diamond Back Vineyard, Burrowing Owl, Desert Hills and on to the river trail. The finish at Silver Sage Winery was a celebration of fun, fitness and fine wine. Okanagan Applessence was served along with a sumptuous buffet lunch and of course, south Okanagan wines were sipped from a commemorative Bordeaux-style wine glass that every participant took home along with a bottle of south Okanagan wine.
Inspired by the world-famous Marathon du Médoc in Bordeaux, France that attracts thousands every year, this race was shorter but every bit as fun. SOWA (South Okanagan Wineries Association) President Tim Martiniuk said the association wanted to place less emphasis on endurance and more on showcasing the scenic beauty, the world class wine and the friendliness of the local population. Top race winners each took away a double magnum (3 litres) of SOWA’s best big reds, blended and bottled for very special use only. The best costume award went to a runner dressed as Moses, who took home a much coveted double magnum of Burrowing Owl 2007 Merlot.
Race organizers say that next year’s event will feature the wineries of the Golden Mile bench on the east side of the valley but the weather will be exactly the same each year for many years to come!
